SQLServer 2005 – SQLExpress Merge Replication Step by Step

Here is the result when i did merge replication SQLServer 2005 – SQLExpress. I'm not consider this as a SQL2005 Merge Replication guide, but i hope it useful for someone need it.

Initials : You need 2 SQL engines to walk throught this exp, SQL 2005 engine and a SQL express engine.
Open SQLServer 2005 Management Studio and create following database:
A SQL2005 database. Example : MyServer.
A SQLExpress database. Example : MyClient.

Step 1: Configure Distributor

Expand SQLServer 2005 (in this example is ‘PHU’) and right click on Replication, choose Distributor Configuration.

Step 2 : Create Publication

Step 4 : Run Merge Replication (Pull Subcription)

SQL Express does not support Replicate Agent, so we use window Synchronize instead .
Run Window Synchronize by followed ways :
- On Start/Run, type mobsync.exe , press OK.
- On Start/Programs/Accessories/Synchronize
Note : Synchronize application is supported in MS Window 2000 and later.

Notes :

- We can configre Snapshot Agent’s schedule at figure 2.9,2.10,2.11.
- Window Synchronize also support settings for ‘when to run synchronize’. Configure it by press Set up button on Synchronize’s main interface. Screenshot is Figure 4.6.
- Merge replication(push subscription) can run direct on Management Studio by using supported agent (without using MS Synchronize).
- When new table was added to database and need to synchronize, we must add it to publisher and run snapshot agent to generate snapshots of new articles.Here is screenshots:
